How Can We Help?

Get a Library Card

Getting a Allegheny County Library Card:

Visit the circulation desk and present proof of current Allegheny County residence (ex. a driver’s license, a utility bill, lease/mortgage, etc.) and photo identification (ex. driver’s license, passport, etc.). We will then create your new card that will be active immediately. There is no charge for library cards.  The library card is required to take items out of the library. Patrons can also set up online accounts to reserve and renew items online and review library accounts. Sign up here for your online account. You must have a library card  and PIN number to sign up for an online account. If you do not  have a PIN, call or visit the library.

Getting a library card for a child under 18 years old:

If a child would like to get a card of their own, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who can provide the above mentioned identification and be willing to sign the card application.

Online Library Card Registration for ages 18+

Fill out the self registration form for your temporary (30-day) library account. You can immediately begin to place requests on library material. To upgrade to a card with full borrowing privileges, visit any Allegheny County library and present proof of current Allegheny County residence (driver’s license, a utility bill, lease/mortgage, etc.) along with photo identification driver’s license, passport, etc.) to receive your permanent library card. Do not apply for a card if you already have one, if you have overdue items, fines or if your card has been lost or stolen. Visit the library to address these issues.
